Explore Zakynthos Island

Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is the third largest island of the Ionian Sea Islands in western Greece. It covers an area of more than 400 sq.km. (155 sq.mi) with about 41,000 inhabitants.

Its coast line spreads out for 123 km (76 mi) in length, covered with long, golden beaches in the east and steep cliffs in the west coast.

Zante Island is also known as “Fiore di Levante”, a name given by the Venetian conquerors who ruled the island until the end of 18th century, meaning “The Flower of the East” because of its unparalleled beauty.

The most famous of all sights is of course the Shipwreck beach (also known as Smuggler’s Cove or Navagio in Greek).

Apart from the Shipwreck, the island features many other natural wonders such as the Blue Caves, Marathonissi and Keri Caves as well as numerous other beautiful beaches for all tastes.

Zante though is not just a holiday resort; it also has a beautiful inland with numerous traditional villages, as well as many museums and monuments you can visit to learn about its rich history.

Moreover, Zakynthos is famous for the loggerhead sea turtle of the species ‘Caretta-Caretta’, which lays its eggs on many of the beaches in the southern part of the island.

Also, don’t forget to taste the most interesting local cuisine at one of its fine restaurants or traditional taverns.

Furthermore, Zante is famous for its nightlife, with Laganas holding the scepter with its loud clubs and bars, but you can also have your cocktails in a more romantic scenery while gazing the sea in any of the great bars around the island.

Finally, if you have kids, they will surely love the island, as they won’t ever get bored: From water parks and water games on the beach, to pony rides and fun parks, Zakynthos is a place that families will fall in love with.

The only thing sure is that your summer holidays in Zakynthos Island will be unforgettable!
